In a few hours 2022 comes into our lives and cyNews presents the 10 best football movies to watch during the holidays. Movies that are a "station" for the field of football and remind the viewer of important moments, teams, athletes, as well as historical moments that proved that football is one of the most important social phenomena. Have fun!


10. United (2011)

The film deals with the events of the Munich tragedy in 1958, which essentially stopped the course of the -perhaps- leading team of Manchester United and essentially narrates the events that shocked the world at that time. Few may have experienced it, however, it is an event that has marked the field not only of football but also of sports and the film transports the viewer to those shocking days.


9. The football factory (2004)

In essence, the film is about the common face of the English hooligan who wants to join a gang and through it to dominate the fan gangs, thus offering the viewer the hooligan culture that was created in England and even went so far as to keep groups out of European events.


8. Zidane: Α 21st Century portrait

A documentary about the life of one of the top footballers of the last decades which is worth watching and learning aspects of Zinedine Zidane's life.


7. Mean machine (2001)

Starring Winnie Jones and Jason Statham, Jones plays the former England captain who, due to an attack on police officers, is in prison and is actually coaching the prison team which will face the police in a match where the prison laws "marry" those of football.


6. England manager (2001)

The film focuses on the days of Mike Bassett, who after taking over the technical leadership of the England national team was severely criticized by the unsuccessful results, although in the end he was able to help the "three lions" find themselves in the 2002 World Cup.


5. Diego Maradona (2019)

The biography of Diego Maradona, from his first steps to the fame in Napoli and the National Team of Argentina and the conquest of the football world.


4. Goal (2005)

A young Mexican Santiago Miniez makes his dream come true, when after several difficulties he manages to win the opportunity to play with the Newcastle jersey in the Premier League, making his dream come true. The first film was followed by two others with a final destination for the 2016 World Cup.


3. Pele (2016)

The beginning of the creation of the legendary Pelé, when still as a young athlete he was able to lead Brazil to the top of the world and only at the age of 18 to conquer the top of the world, starting the legend of Pelé.


2. The Damned United (2009)

One of the top movies of its kind. The film is about the legendary coach Brian Clough who after winning the championship with Derby took over the technical leadership of Leeds and the difficult 44 days that followed on the bench of his new team where he did not have the best feelings for her.


1. Escape to victory (1981)

The film takes the audience to a German prisoner-of-war camp during World War II. The Nazi forces also wanted to show their "superiority" through football. So the select group of Nazi forces decides to organize a friendly match with a select team of football players who can benefit and achieve their goal, in a film where the viewer can see from Sylvester Stallone to Pelé.
